Testosterone / TRT
DEA Schedule IIIControlled anabolic steroid — legal with a prescription, restricted abroad.
Overview
Testosterone is a Schedule III anabolic-androgenic steroid under U.S. federal law and is controlled in most countries. It is legal to travel with for personal medical use when carried with a valid prescription, but some destinations (e.g. the UAE) require advance approval, and injectable forms can attract extra scrutiny at customs.
Travel guidance
- Carry a valid prescription; keep vials, pens or gel in original labeled packaging.
- Injectable testosterone plus needles should be accompanied by a physician's letter.
- The UAE and some Gulf states require prior approval for controlled hormones.
- Japan may require a Yakkan Shoumei for quantities beyond personal limits.
Documentation to carry
- Original labeled container
- Copy of the prescription and physician's letter (especially for injectables)
- Import approval where required
Common, costly mistakes
- Carrying testosterone without a prescription — it is a controlled steroid, not a supplement.
- Packing needles without a supporting doctor's letter.
